Does anyone suffer with dry skin?

Did you know that you could be making it worse by the products that you are using, that are marketed for dry skin in the first place? Your skin has its own form of protection in the name of oils. The oils that your skin secretes protects it from drying out, cracking and creates a barrier to the outside world. Shower gel or bubble bath is a mild detergent.

Detergents remove oils and therefore strip your skin of the beneficial oils that it makes, leading to dryness, flakiness and itching. I used to scrub my skin with a pouffe loaded up with shower gel every time I showered and then because my skin was dry and flaky I would slather on the moisturiser. Then I had an ‘aha’ moment. I stopped using shower gel and only used a wash on the bits that need washing (pits, bits and feet) and lo and behold the oils replenished themselves and my skin recovered.

Your skin does not need anything apart from water to get clean. It’s not dirty. Now I don’t have to use moisturiser on my body as I don’t suffer with dried out skin. If you suffer with dry skin try a week without shower gel and see if it improves. If it’s really dry, dry brushing then coconut oil works super well to get the skin back healthy again.
